The March issue of Maxim Magazine recently hit newstands across the world, and with it came a seven-page feature article covering this past January’s WSOBP V tournament.

The article, entitled “Beer and Gloating In Las Vegas” spans pages 70-76 of the issue which also features the ridiculous hotness of Big Bang Theory’s Kaley Cuoco (we’d love to see her handle a few balls). Penned by Josh Eells, a freelance writer whose client list includes Blender and Spin, the spread features a bevy of action shots from veteran photographer Matt Salacuse and contains a detailed recap of the three-day event including heretofore unpublished insights into Ron Hamilton’s family life (you know you want to know how he’s been spending all that cash), as well as some highlights of other beer pong celebrities such as SoCal Beer Pong founder Peter Rusch and Vince Bolhuis of 2nd place finishers Since Sliced Bread.

The issue hit stands Feb. 16th and can be found in magazine racks across the country. It is also now available online. Every pong player owes it to themselves to go out and pick up a copy of beer pong history. Right on, Maxim.

MillerCoors LLC, the U.S. venture between SABMiller Plc and Molson Coors Brewing Co., sued a maker of equipment for the barroom game Beer Pong, claiming infringement of the brewer’s Lite Beer trademarks.

A drinking game, beer pong requires players to toss pingpong balls across a table with the object of landing a ball in the opposing team’s cups of beer.

MillerCoors, in its lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago yesterday, alleges that Bridgeport, Connecticut-based PB&J Design Inc. is selling tables, kegs full of beer pong balls, pitchers and cups featuring a logo similar to the brewer’s Lite beer marks.

Denver-based MillerCoors has accused PB&J Design of trademark infringement and unfair competition. It is seeking a court order barring the use of the logos it says are similar to its trademarked emblems together with an award of unspecified money damages.

“The target customers for MillerCoors and the defendant are the same,” the brewer said in its complaint. “Defendant’s use of marks strikingly similar to the MillerCoors marks is likely to cause confusion, mistake, or deception in the marketplace.”

The game implements are available for purchase on the Web site www.getbombed.com.

PB&J representatives didn’t immediately reply to voicemail messages seeking comment on the suit.

The case is MillerCoors LLC v. PB&J Design Inc., 10cv1034, in the Northern District of Illinois (Chicago)

Mega hottie Jessica Alba made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night to play beer pong and promote an upcoming movie. As usual when you play beer pong on the Late Night show, you only need to make 2 cups to win. The game started slow with Jessica trying to explain how to Ro-Sham-Bo, and Jimmy totally not understanding.

Jimmy Fallon strikes first and hits one of Jessica’s cups. She’s a champ and pounds the beer like it’s nothing!

Just a few shots late Jimmy is able to put the nail in the coffin and hits a second cup, ending the game. In a an attempt to be closer to Jessica, Jimmy offers to chug the last beer with her. What a gentleman.

He’s one half of Smashing Time, better known as the team that has won $50,000 at the WSOBP in back to back years. We sat down with Mike earlier this week to find out what’s on his mind after winning beer pong richest tournament. Here’s what he had to say…

BPN - Without winning back-to-back WSOBP’s what would Mike Popielarski be doing today?

Pops - I am pretty sure I would be working some dead end job if any since the economy is so terrible right now. So winning these major tournaments came at a good time.

BPN - Other than Smashing Time, who is the best beer pong team in the nation, in your opinion?

Pops - In my honest opinion I see quite a few newly formed teams like Kessler and Deep, Foster and Austin, and a few Cali teams that all are great teams. They just need to play together more or play more big tourneys to fully gel and find that game winning format. As far as another team with big tourney experience and playing together efficiently as of right now I’d say Twig and Radesco, if they only lived in the same state they’d be that much harder to beat. There should be more great teams that play together over the years, but I see a lot of best players in there state not playing together for whatever reason.

BPN - Who is the better beer pong player, you or Ron?

Pops - I think after all the tournaments we have played we have come to realize who plays what role. In terms of consistency, that’s where I have the edge, I hit at a high percentage and give Ron those big shots. Ron’s a big shot maker, set him up and watch him shine. Ron’s edge is also in defense, getting in people’s heads or making it just a little bit harder to hit that cup. Nobody does it better than Ron does and with all the competition you need that little edge because everyone at these events can smash cups.

BPN - What does your 2010 tournament schedule look like? Anything you are looking forward to?

Pops - I always look forward to touring parts of the world and playing all different people, challenging myself. It’s crazy that beer pong enables me to go all over the place for free basically meet new people, see new places I wouldn’t be without beer pong. I enjoy that I get the privilege to play with some of the best players in the world at all different events. Beast of the East is coming up always a fun time, and apparently I gotta go back to SCBP open and place higher.

BPN - What does the future hold for the sport of beer pong?

Pops - Hopefully television, endorsements, movies, and ESPN. Some of the games I see like pool, bowling, darts, and scrabble are all on ESPN and there not nearly as entertaining or intense as the way we play beer pong.

BPN - In 10yrs how big should the WSOBP grand prize be? And will you still be playing?

Pops - In 10 years I would say the pot could be around $250, 000 (a million would be nice if we ever fix our economy). I can’t exactly say where my life will take me in 10 years, but I will say the H.O.G.S aka hot old guys from Maryland definitely give me a little drive to be playing when I get older. They go out have fun with it and I respect that.

BPN - What is the coolest thing that winning back-to-back championships at the WSOBP has enabled you to do?

Pops - I would say just getting my “15 minutes of fame” and extending it just a little longer. Doing interviews, radio shows like Jay Thomas and DJ Whoo Kid’s shade 45 show. I mean we made ESPN the Magazine and TIME Magazine how many people can say they have done that. It’s nice going out having people recognize and congratulating you.

BPN - Anything you would change about the WSOBP or their rules?

Pops - That only smashing time gets shoot till you miss, but we know that won’t happen. I am still really impressed that Billy, Duncan, and Skinny were able to put together such well thought out rules before beer pong was anything and I was still playing elbow rules on a 6 foot tables.

BPN - Do you believe in the theory that you are better at beer pong when you are drunk?

Pops - I am totally against that theory. Being drunk impairs everything that you can do. I think that statement is totally misused. Drinking can calm peoples nerves, make them think less about how big of a game they are playing, but it no way does it make you shoot better. I can play dead sober if I drive myself to a tournament or drunk it shouldn’t matter.

BPN - Is beer pong a sport?

Pops - I would say now that you can see a team win 3 major tournaments with so much competition and teams, that this should definitely be considered a sport. The outside world just thinks it’s a bunch of drunks throwing a ball around, but when you see same teams doing well u know there has to be some talent involved.

BPN - What is your take on the “elbow rule?” Do you play in tournaments that use it?

Pops - I think everyone in my age bracket started with elbow rules. I do just as well and hit the same cups as if I were allowed to lean. When you can shoot you can shoot. The house party kids that complain they are more talented than me because I lean can test me anytime, all I see from these kinds of people is them just chucking up the ball hitting all random cups. They lose to me and still complain I’m taller so I’m done with those kids, always causes a fight. If the money is there I will play any rules. When I was a new player starting from elbow rules I heard about the WSOBP and there $20k prize and I said ok let me go learn those rules also.

BPN - So what exactly went down with you and Ron in the months leading up to the 2010 WSOBP? You guys were partners, then not, and then partners again…. What was up with that?

Pops - I personally was not happy with Ron’s decision to not play beer pong at all since we won the AC tournament. He left me playing with different people all year long and if he heard about something with a big prize he’d want to just step in after not playing for all that time. I took that as greed, not willing to put the hours in for us to be in a position to win but wanting the rewards of the game. I suggested he play in some tourneys with a partner were he can shoot all shots as I was doing and we’d be our own competition, which is what we were when I started playing. I figured who’s our best competition but ourselves, but Ron just wanted the money. Aside from the money I enjoy being a recognized champion and did not want to play with someone who didn’t have the same goals.

BPN - If you had to guess, how much money have you made off the game of beer pong?

Pops - Well we already know between WSOBP IV, WBPT, and WSOBP V, that’s $125k to split. And the rest is a mystery but we have done quite well in the 4 years I have been playing.

BPN - How much have you lost?

Pops - I can’t say I’ve lost anything. I haven’t lost any big cash games that I haven’t won back. And if I lose and tourney on a 10 or 25 dollar buy in I can always win the following week. So for me and a lot of the elite players it’s all profit since we win more than we lose.

BPN - Any announcements you’d like to make? Any big things in the works for 2010?

Pops - Well smashing time just started a Facebook fan page and will be editing the website that Ron made with his feet. And I would hopefully like to put out some beer pong t-shirt ideas with phrases that have become popular from playing these big events. And I hope 2010 brings some more TV and publicity through us to get beer pong out there and viewed as a sport. (So I promise I won’t let Ron speak).

Quick Fire Questions:

BPN - $50k per year Job or $50k per year playing beer pong?

Pops - The saying goes money won is sweeter than money earned, and it is 100% true. But some stability especially in today’s world would be best.

BPN - Tournaments or Cash Games?

Pops - Tournaments I haven’t seen a real cash game since 2006

BPN - Beer Pong or Beirut?

Pops - Beer pong

BPN - Best Beer for Beer Pong?

Pops - Natty would be fantastic, but I’ll stay with Bud Light.

BPN - Dream Job?

Pops - Now with me saying how some of the behind the scenes things work, some kind of sports agent or TV announcer.

BPN - Have you ever taken performance enhancing drugs?

Pops - If there is one that make you grow taller than I must have, I mean have you seen me. Ron might have though.

BPN - Worst Fear?

Pops - Most people think I would say Ron but definitely not. Breaking my right arm before the finals for a large prize. But I can play lefty so I’m prepared

BPN - Other than Smashing Time, who is the best beer pong team in the nation, in your opinion?

Ron Hamilton - There are no considered “best” beer pong teams in the nation, I feel that on any given day anyone can beat anyone. Whoever is hot that game takes it down and there are a ton of teams out there and I will name a few and if I happen to leave anyone out sorry guys… Get your popcorn ready, hand jobs for the homeless, God Given, Not Even Close, Since Slice Bread, Doing Hella Much, We Own Your Face, Ask About Us, etc…

BPN - Who is the better beer pong player, you or Pop?

Ron Hamilton - Well you ask anyone this question on a team they are going to say themselves, but here’s the deal… We complement each other in the sense that when 1 of us is off in a game, the other 1 is 100% on and cannot miss. But when we are BOTH on.. Its game over. Pop is more consistent, but I get in people’s heads and get them to miss big shots, and I feel that over the last 3 WSOBP’s I have been more clutch in a pressure situations when the time is needed, but all in all Pop play’s as much as I did back in the mid 2000’s and as of right now I play maybe 10 times a year. So right now he’s raking as I used to myself, but when things get heated and we fight and we play against each other 1 on 1 or whatever, he knows just as well as I know that it’s going to be a dog fight till the last cup in no OTs or 10 OTs.

BPN - What does your 2010 tournament schedule look like? Anything you are looking forward to?

Ron Hamilton - Well our sponsors WorldGaming.com have agreed to be on board with Smashing Time for the 2010 schedule and we will be competing in as many big tournaments as possible. As of right now we are slated to play the Atlantic City Championship for 50k prize pool put on by World Pong Tour.

BPN - What does the future hold for the sport of beer pong?

Ron Hamilton - I think the future of beer pong will be very good in the sense that I think it will blow up just like the World Series Of Poker did. I think the prize pool will be going up. I think it will attract more mainstream big time sponsors to the sport. As I stated last question that our sponsors for the WSOBP V, Worldgaming.com are getting involved with us Smashing Time and I feel as if this is just the tip of the iceberg for future sponsors to come. Once sponsors like our WorldGaming.com taste and see what a beer pong tournament or individual beer pong team can do for their company by being the big time advertisement for their products or website, I think more companies will jump on board. As long as people keep taking the videos of us or any team and pictures and placing them on various websites, companies or websites will see it would be a good source of advertisement to maximize their products they are trying to sell. Our sponsors WorldGaming.com are not even in the beer pong atmosphere, they are a website that mainly is in the direct area of mainstream video gaming and that gives console gamers the chance to win real money playing video games. Combining a passion for technology with an obsession with fairness, WorldGaming.com is built on a promise to give users the best possible gaming experience on the web. So they took a chance on us to help promote their website and what they are about and I think we did them well, so I see the sport of beer pong growing in sponsorship from mainstream products hopefully very soon.

BPN - In 10yrs how big should the WSOBP grand prize be? And will you still be playing?

Ron Hamilton - In 10 years hopefully the WSOBP grand prize will be 500,000 to 1 million dollars… Hopefully, and yes I will continue playing AND winning till there is no more money to be made.

BPN - What is the coolest thing that winning back-to-back championships at the WSOBP has enabled you to do?

Ron Hamilton - Well winning back to back championships at the WSOBP will hopefully in the near future enable me to get more money from bigger sponsors in the future. Like I stated before it’s a good way for companies to advertise and by Smashing Time’s continued success it just adds to the resume for potential sponsors down the road. Yeah we get interviewed a lot, and yes the money is great, but I wanna blow up big time in the sense of sponsorship opportunities like monster energy drink or something on those lines. Like those guys who snowboard, or surf, and get tons of money for being on board with an energy drink company or such.

BPN - Any thing you would change about the WSOBP or their rules?

Ron Hamilton - After winning 2 years in a row at the WSOBP, I wouldn’t change a thing.

BPN - Do you believe in the theory that you are better at beer pong when you are drunk?

Ron Hamilton - Personally I have to be drunk to play beer pong, not everyone has to be, but personally I have to be. If I am sober then I’m just a mess, thinking about my shot, thinking about the game and stuff like that. I get very nervous before each game and well for me being sober I shake a little and I think too much about my finger placements on the ball and it just doesn’t roll of my hand well. I have played enough over the course of the last 10 years or so where it is all muscle memory with my shot. I feel as if I have perfected my shot, and when I am drunk, I tend not to think about anything and just let my muscle memory take over and get it done. So me personally playing drunk I am lights out, but everyone is not the same.

BPN - Is beer pong a sport?

Ron Hamilton - To me anything where you compete against other opponents is a sport. People may say it’s just a competition, well that’s a sport to me. Anything where you have to beat another team that has the same opportunity to win the game as much as you do is a sport.

BPN - What is your take on the “elbow rule?” Do you play in tournaments that use it?

Ron Hamilton - Every tourney has its own set of rules. The elbow rule will always be in effect at some places because it makes it harder for a person to hit shots because it is at a longer distance. Let’s get serious now anything from a farther distance shooting wise is going to be harder. I have played in plenty of “elbow rule” tourneys, and I still win. The thing with bars and tournaments and such is this, an elbow rule tourney will take longer to run then a non elbow rule tourney. It is at a farther distance and it will make it harder to hit cups, so it’s just not a good thing for a bar to run or what not. Frat kids or college kids like to play elbow rules because they learned playing the game like that and they want to be macho and make fun of WSOBP rules and ect. Here’s the thing, Pop and I of Smashing Time will play any rules and still win regardless. When you play elbow rules as I stated it is a little bit further then playing non elbow rules so most kids do not aim at a specific cup, they just chuck it up and hope the ball goes in the vicinity of the cups to hit them. Pop and I shoot at specific cups every shot, when we hit cups that we are not aiming for, we both know it and make fun of each other.

BPN - So what exactly went down with you and Pops in the months leading up to the 2010 WSOBP? You guys were partners, then not, and then partners again…. What was up with that?

Ron Hamilton - Pop plays 5 nights a week, he plays with random partners and still win’s. We all got ego problems, but Pop felt as if he can win with anyone. I told him he was wrong, a lot of people told him he was wrong, I know his intentions were to play with Vince from Since Slice Bread, who is an amazing player, but Vince did not want to break up his team. So Pop really had no choice but to play with me, in which I know he didn’t want to, but whatever we did and we won again. Personally I don’t know you would want to break up a team that wins WSOBP IV, then World Pong Tour 25k AC championships, but that was on him. I don’t know what his deal is sometimes, but whatever I show up to play and win and that’s exactly what I did. So whatever Pop wants to do or say to me down the road in which I will guarantee 100% it will happen again with none of it being my fault, I will continue to do what I do..Play and Win.

BPN - If you had to guess, how much money have you made off the game of beer pong?

Ron Hamilton - You mean monopoly money right? Because we all know beer pong in bars is considered gambling and I do not condone that what so ever. Over the last 10 years since I have been playing in Tournaments around Long Island and NY even before Smashing Time was formed.. I would say somewhere in the range of before WSOBP monopoly money, on average about 30k of monopoly money a year from 2000-2008, I guess about over 250k then last year’s probably around 350k monopoly money from beer pong.

BPN - How much have you lost?

Ron Hamilton - I have lost 0 when it evens out. Yeah we have lost in tournaments and yes I have lost some cash games on the side but it all goes back to 0 because of the winnings

BPN - Any announcements you’d like to make? Any big things in the works for 2010?

Ron Hamilton - I’m now engaged to my lovely fiancée Lori, and we are having a kid that is due this April 2010. And if anyone knows of any jobs I need one asap, lol. And thanks again to World Gaming for sponsorship for the WSOBP V

Quick Fire Questions:

BPN - $50k per year Job or $50k per year playing beer pong?

Ron Hamilton - $50k for 3 days of work… BOOOM who wouldn’t want that

BPN - Tournaments or Cash Games?

Ron Hamilton - Tournaments = More Money

BPN - Beer Pong or Beirut?

Ron Hamilton - Beer Pong

BPN - Best Beer of Beer Pong?

Ron Hamilton - Whatever, I don’t care which, I usually just pound the cup of beer and don’t even taste it to begin with

BPN - Dream Job?

Ron Hamilton - I was looking to go pro in baseball and was a 2 time all American in college but I got hurt my junior year and now throw the ball because of the injury like a girl so my dream job if I can ever get my arm fixed and get extremely lucky at my age is to be a pro baseball player.

BPN - Have you ever taken performance enhancing drugs?

Ron Hamilton -Jack Daniels is my performing enhancement drug for the sport of beer pong.

BPN - Worst Fear?

Ron Hamilton - Spiders.. I know gayyy

BPN - Offense or Defense?

Ron Hamilton - Got to have both to win.. I think it’s safe to say I have both.
