Joseph Jimenez admitted in court that he knew the gun was loaded when he fired the silver .40-caliber Taurus, striking 25-year-old Scott Riley in the neck. (original story)
Prosecutors say the two men were part of a group of people playing “beer pong” inside a house on West Second Street when the argument broke out. It spilled into an alley where the shot was fired.
Defense attorney Brendan Campbell says his client is remorseful:
“He had a very close relationship with Scott — a unique relationship — and it’s something he’s going to have to live with the rest of his life, the fact that Scott’s blood is on his hand.”
Jimenez pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and carrying a gun without a license.
Outside the courtroom, a family friend said Jimenez has a family that loves him and this has been difficult on both families. He faces a maximum 47 years in jail when he’s sentenced later this year.
