An argument between two roommates over where to store a beer pong table and who should clean up a trashy mess ended up with one of the roommates getting arrested for allegedly damaging the table belonging to the other roommate.
Jeffrey Ross Klein, 22, Madison, was tentatively charged with intentional damage to property following the incident, which happened Monday night in an apartment in the 700 block of University Avenue.
Madison police said they were dispatched to the apartment at about 7:30 p.m., attempting to arbitrate a dispute between Klein and the 21-year-old male roommate.
According to a police report:
The argument centered on where the $140 beer pong table should go and who was responsible for cleaning up trash.
“Officers made suggestions and felt comfortable the issues were resolved,” said police officer Howard Payne.
Not so fast.
Two hours later, the 911 communications center got another call from the 21-year-old. The beer pong table had been pushed in front of his door, with trash stacked on top of it. A garbage can full of trash had apparently been slammed into the table, punching a hole in it.
“It was obvious tempers had escalated between both parties, and when the suspect was asked if it were possible that he damaged the pong table, he said ‘anything is possible,’” Payne said. “The possibility of arrest significantly increased with officers on the scene after that statement.”
